How Upper Cervical Works Edit text here

In the video above Dr. Thomas Forest, a Certified Blair Upper Cervical Instructor,
with whom Dr. Mehl had the privilage of training, explains how Upper Cervical works.

Relying on precision rather than force, the Blair Method of Upper Chiropractic Care focuses on identifying and correcting misalignments of the upper two vertebra of the neck, thereby relieving pressure on the brain stem and spinal cord. The spinal cord must pass from the brain to the rest of the body through a narrow opening at the base of the skull and into the spinal column. Even the slightest misalignment can put unwanted pressure on the nerve bundle, resulting in any one of - or even a collection of medical conditions in various parts of the body. These misalignments are identified with a specialized procedure developed by Dr. Blair using highly specialized 3D X-Rays. Once identified, the coordinates are used to plot a precise angle of adjustment using the minimum amount of force. It's highly effective and patients love it.

Your History and Spinal Exam Determines If We Can Help You

After reviewing a detailed history, the patient is given an exam to determine if there are any indications of a spinal misalignment. The exam includes orthopedic and neurological tests as well as leg length analysis, which measures discrepancies between the left and right legs which may indicate spinal misalignment.

Thermography Scans Are Performed To Find The Location Of Nervous System Dysfunction.

Paraspinal Thermal Imaging (Thermography) is a safe, painless and reliable diagnostic test that measures how the nervous system is functioning. Since the health of the nervous system can determine the health of the body, this examination provides critical information which is vital to your care.

Infrared Thermography is a neurodiagnostic medical technology which is used to measure the nerves around the spine. This technology is safe and painless for everyone, including children. A hand held scanner, as pictured above with Dr. Mehl, is placed on the patient's neck and a visualized representation of the condition of the cervical vertebra is displayed on the computer screen. A computerized readout produces a graph which reveals dysfunction in the nervous system. This procedure is used on the initial visit to determine if you could benefit from our care and it is also used on follow up visits so that we can monitor progress over the course of patient care.

The process is based on a precise analysis of the infrared surface temperature along the spine. Differences in temperature between sides are compared to established normal values. Temperature differences greater than 0.5C (as seen in above images) are displayed as orange or red lines and indicates the presence of abnormal nervous system function.

Next, let's check the length of the legs.

It's time to do precision 3D XRays to confirm the problem and get the fine details.
Upper Cervical Doctors use specialized 3D X-Ray equipment to take precision X-Rays

A tilting bucky, stereo tube shift, x-ray chair and head-brace are used to take precision x-rays. This equipment is unique to the Upper Cervical procedure and is not found in most chiropractic offices. Because misalignments are measured in millimeters, precision x-rays are necessary for the doctor to measure the angles so that the proper adjustment can be given. We do this right here in our office during your exam visit.

When a misaligned spine has been found in your examination, precision x-rays are taken. The cervical x-rays are viewed as a three dimensional picture of the neck so that the misalignment can be precisely measured.
Careful analysis and plotting of trajectories enable a precise, gentle and highly effective adjustment.
The plotted coordinates are transferred to the patient who lies on a special adjustment table. The table has a headrest that moves ever so slightly when the adjustment is made. The headpiece movement enables the neck to extend naturally a quarter inch, while slight pressure is applied. This allows the C1-C2 Verterbra to realign with minimum pressure. The result is a comfortable adjustment with very little force. After all the preperation, the adjustment takes less than a second. Patients love it. Relax for a few minutes and you're done.

Depending on your specific condition a certain number of adjustments will be needed, and then only periodic checkups.
