About Upper Cervical Care and the Blair Technique

Because the brain controls EVERY part and organ in the body, and sends and receives signals via the brain stem and spinal cord through the rest of the Central Nervous System, proper brain function and communication is the most important part of human existence.

The most critical junction is where the brainstem connects with the spinal cord, where your head sits on top of the first two verterbrea of the spine. A misalignment here, that may or may not be felt, can cause nerve pressure and interfere with the brain's signals, resulting in disease, malfunction and often times pain, in various parts of your body.

The Blair Method of Upper Cervical Care is a proven advanced method of identification and correction of this all-incompassing, and often misdiagosed condition.

Listen to Dr. Drew Hall of the Blair Society explain what the Blair Chiropractic Technique is and what makes it different.
Upper Cervical, Your Body and Your Brain,
an Intimate Relationship

Upper Cervical Care is a rapidly growing form of Chiropractic that focuses on the intimate relationship between the first two bones in the neck (C1-C2), called the upper cervical spine, and a vital portion of the nervous system, known as the brain stem. This relationship is absolutely essential to the body's ability to preserve and restore health. The brain stem is the control center that extends the brain down through an opening in the base of your skull, making it vulnerable to injuries or irritations around the upper neck. The brain stem works very much like a telephone cable with thousands of individual wires or nerve fibers sending signals back and forth between the brain and spinal cord to every cell, organ and system in the body. Every impulse between the brain and the body must pass though the brain stem. And the brain stem must pass through the narrow openings of the upper cervical C1-C2 verterbrea.
Above and below: The C1-C2 Joint

The C1 and C2 vertebrae are the first two vertebrae at the top of the cervical spine. Together they form the atlantoaxial joint, which is a pivot joint. The C1 sits atop and rotates around C2 below. More of the head’s rotational range of motion comes from C1-C2 than any other cervical joint
As you can see, from the illustration above, there is a lot going on here at the C1-C2 junction. The skull sits on top of the Atlas C-1. The brain stem, arteries and veins must pass through some pretty tight openings in a joint assembly designed to pivot and rotate. The smallest misallignment (the thickness of a fingernail) can cause a problem. These tiny misallignments are not typically picked up by standard medical or chiropractic diagnostics. Specialized 3D Blair View X-Rays make accurate diagnoses and correction possible.

Most people know that there are different kinds of medical doctors, but few know that there are different types of chiropractors.

An upper cervical chiropractor is a specialist in the chiropractic profession that analyzes and corrects subluxations in the upper cervical spine, in particular the top vertebra (atlas). Upper Cervical doctors use specific procedures and objective measurements to provide the highest level of care possible to balance the spine and remove irritation to the nervous system. The use of gentle and precisely directed forces, challenges the generalized forceful manipulation procedure which is commonly associated with chiropractic care.

It is estimated that there are fewer than 1,500 chiropractors worldwide practicing this method, which is less than 1% of the chiropractic population.
"But I don't have pain in my upper neck, why would I go to an Upper Cervical doctor?"

Upper Cervical chiropractic care is an entire body correction that can have profound benefits in areas that are not near the upper neck and with conditions that would not respond to other treatments or procedures. The results can be dramatic and some patients report immediate relief of symptoms that they may have had for more than 10 years.

Conditions which have been reported to respond favorably to this procedure are numerous and include back and neck pain, knee problems, whiplash injuries, fibromyalgia, many ear conditions (tinnitus, Meniere's, etc.), chronic fatigue, headaches & migraines, TMJ symptoms, trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathy, scoliosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and many many more...

The Upper Cervical procedure has helped over 100 conditions....why not yours!

Did you know that............
your head (10-14 lbs, the weight of a bowling ball) rests on a 2 oz bone called the Atlas, which is the top bone in your neck? Wherever your Atlas moves, your head moves with it. If this top bone in your neck has shifted out of position ever so slightly, no more than the thickness of a fingernail, it can move your head off center.
In an effort to keep your head over the center of the neck, your spine and pelvis will twist, pulling one hip up and one leg with it. You are now walking around with one leg shorter than the other. Depending on the severity, you may or may not notice it but either way the effects lead to body dysfunction and disease.

The wear and tear on your body is exactly like driving a car that is out of alignment. The result can be muscle and joint pain anywhere in the body. Without correcting the problem, which originated with a single bone (Atlas) at the top of your neck moving out of position, your
entire body is now imbalanced.

Body imbalance is only the
beginning of the problem. Here's why.

Brain to body messages control and maintain ALL body functions. These messages are a
must for healing. Trillions of nerve fibers carrying these messages from the brain to the body "bottle-neck" through the small opening in the first bone in the neck (Atlas) as they flow down into the spinal cord and out to every cell in your body. If the head and neck are not in proper alignment, it can cause spinal cord irritation at the point where the head and the neck join, and disrupt or distort vital brain messages to any part of the body. This can cause countless health problems and pain anywhere in the body, including organ dysfunction and conditions that you would not normally relate to a problem originating in the top of your neck.

But the good news is that this can be fixed!

When the Atlas gets corrected, how does it feel?

Amazingly, when an Upper Cervical Correction is made there is no twisting of the neck. Patients are often surprised at how "underwhelming" it is. Yet, immediately muscles relax. Blood and oxygen circulation increases. The immune system is enhanced and the brain is able to communicate with the affected part of the body. The natural self-healing process begins and continues as long as body balance is maintained and the brain can freely communicate with the body.

By the way, the Upper Cervical Correction "cures" nothing. It simply removes spinal cord irrition and tension, and reactivates normal transmission of brain messages to the affected part of the body, so the
natural healing process of the body can begin. This is why we see so many different conditions responding to the same proceedure.

There are less than 1500 Chiropractors world wide who are trained and certified to do this procedure. Their singular objective is to make the Upper Cervical Correction, then help you maintain it so you can live pain free, healthier and enjoy a better quality of life.
